Highlights
1. According to Vietnam Customs’ trade data, a light increase of 3.9%
in Vietnam’s international trade-in-goods in comparison with the
performance of previous month, which totaled US dollars 20.56 billion in
value terms, was reported for August 2012. In which, the total
merchandise export value was US dollars 10.3 billion, went up gently by 1.2% as compared to the performance of last month. By importation, the total value reached US dollars 10.26 billion , went above 6.7% July’s result. As a result, Vietnam’s trade balance was in the surplus of US dollars 52 million in August, 2012
2. Trade statistics disseminated by Vietnam Customs reported a significant increase of 13% in Vietnam’s international trade-in-goods for the first seven months of 2012 , which were summed up to US dollars 148.04 billion. In which, the total merchandise export was US dollars 74.09 billion , up strongly by 19.0% in comparison with the corresponding period of 2011.
There was an expansion of 7.5% in the total merchandise import in
comparison with performance of the same period of 2011, which came at US
dollars 73.96 billion in value terms. Consequently, Vietnam’s trade
balance was in the surplus of US dollars 134 million reported for the
first eight months of 2012.
3. According to trade data for exports and imports for Jan.-Aug. period of 2012 released by Vietnam Customs, the value of exportation and importation by foreign direct invested (FDI) traders totaled US
dollars 79.22 billion, up robustly by 32.7% and accounting for 53.5% of
Vietnam ‘s total external merchandise trade value. Total value of FDI
exportation was US dollars 40.65 billion, advanced sharply by 40.4%. On import side, the total value of those traders was US dollars 38.57 billion, up vigorously by 25.5%.

exports of Vietnam to the world were inclusive of: textiles and garments
(US dollars 1,522 million). Followed by telephones, mobile phones and parts thereof
